Cattle
Pasture grass year-round when conditions allow. Locally sourced non-GMO hay through the winter. No corn. No soy. No grain finishing. Ever.
Our practice
No certifications. Just transparency.
We are 100% natural. That's not a marketing claim. It's a description.
There are a lot of certification programs out there. USDA Organic, Certified Humane, Animal Welfare Approved, American Grassfed Association. We've looked at all of them. We've decided not to pursue any of them. Not because we couldn't qualify, but because we believe people can hide behind certifications. We'd rather just be transparent.
What 100% natural means at Yellowstone Farms: We don't use harsh chemicals on our pastures. We don't use pesticides. We don't use herbicides. We don't use hormones in our animals. We don't use routine antibiotics. We don't feed corn or soy because we don't believe those are natural foods for the animals we raise. Everything our animals eat is non-GMO. They roam, root, graze, and forage as nature intended. And then we rotate them so the land regenerates.
Holistic Pasture Management
Our system is simple. The chickens follow the cows. The cows are followed by the pigs. We move them in rotation across the pasture. The cattle eat down the grass. The chickens come behind, scratching through manure, eating insects, and spreading nitrogen. The pigs root and turn the soil. Each species does work the others can't. Together, they regenerate the land we depend on.
We don't have a fancy name for this. We call it paying attention. We watch the grass. We watch the animals. We move when it's time to move. The pasture tells us what it needs.
The Feed
Pasture grass year-round when conditions allow. Locally sourced non-GMO hay through the winter. No corn. No soy. No grain finishing. Ever.
Pasture forage and rooting. Non-GMO feed supplemented with spent grain mash from Dry Land Distillery, our local Colorado partner. The pigs love it. We love that nothing gets wasted.
Pasture forage as the primary diet. They follow the cattle and pigs and eat what nature provides. Supplemented with non-GMO feed. No fillers. No commercial poultry blends.
Our Processor
All of our beef and pork is processed at Innovative Foods in Evans, Colorado, by Tammy and her team. She's a small-batch processor who works with families like ours and pays attention to every animal. When you reserve a share with us, you'll work directly with Tammy on your cut sheet. She'll walk you through every choice. Want extra ground beef? Done. Prefer steaks over roasts? Done. Want the bones for broth? Done.
This is one of the things we love most about how we operate. You're not buying meat off a shelf. You're working with a family farm and a small-batch processor, and you can call either of us with questions any time.
The Honest List
If you can't say it out loud to a customer's face, it shouldn't be in the food.
